We are now in our 3rd year of collaboration with Antoñio.

PRICE PAID DIRECTLY TO ANTOÑIO
We bought this coffee at $2.45USD/lbs directly from Antoñio with the collaboration of Semilla.
To put this price into context, a producer in Honduras would need to receive a minimum of $2USD/lbs to support himself and his family.
At the time of our purchase, if Antoñio had sold his coffee to the local cooperative, he would have received approximately $1.60USD/lbs.
And if Antoñio had sold it under FairTrade certification , the organization would have given him between $1.40USD/lbs and 1.70USD/lbs.

ANTOÑIO; MODEL OF RESILIENCE AND LEADERSHIP.
We went to meet Antoñio and the community of Selguapa in February 2020. We were amazed by the beauty and the immensity of the territory which is still mostly wild and untouched by humans.
Antoñio, in his seventies, is the dean and a model for the community.
Prior to 1985, all of its farmland was sown with corn and vegetables to provide food and nutrition for the Ramirez family.
But being more and more dependent on the use of Lempiras (monetary currency of Honduras) to acquire medicines, clothes and other goods at the local market, he decided to plant coffee seedlings in order to sell his coffee to the area cooperative. Not only was it a great financial decision for him and his family, but his brothers got into it to acquire nearby land and also produce coffee.
On the other hand, in the early 2000s, with a rising cost of living in Honduras and a loss in the value of coffee on international markets, Antoñio had no choice but to review his business model, which was no longer profitable. So in 2007, with the help of Rony , an agricultural engineer, he planted Typica , a variety of coffee known for its quality and complexity, on his farms.
And now for three years, with the help of Rony , Antonio has been able to find international buyers, including Fantôme , willing to support him and pay double what he used to earn selling his coffee to the cooperative!

We are very proud to buy Antonio's coffee for a third consecutive year, and as long as we are in business and Antoñio can produce coffee, we intend to buy his coffee every year.

FLAVORS
This coffee wowed us from the first time we tasted it, offering us purity and a perfect balance of flavors; a nice lively acidity reminiscent of blackcurrant, a sugar leaning towards caramel, as well as a nice finish on grapefruit, all coated with a very round texture.
